Founder, Chairman and CEO
Abaco's Executive Chairman and Founder, Fernando Alvarez, established Abaco in 1989 in Puerto Rico. By the end of 1994, he had established Abaco as the leading provider of mobile enterprise system consulting and software design on the island with multiple clients and multimillion dollars in revenue.

In 1997, Mr. Alvarez, recognizing the market potential for Abaco's products, decided to take Abaco to the mainland and opened an office in Atlanta. In 1998, Ernst &Young recognized Mr. Alvarez as the Puerto Rico Entrepreneur of the Year. Abaco expanded its presence internationally in 1999 by opening offices in The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

In 2000, Mr. Alvarez completed a venture round of financing for Abaco from Benchmark Capital, Noro-Moseley Partners and SAP Ventures. Mr. Alvarez was also honored that year as one of the 100 most influential Hispanic business leaders by Hispanic Business magazine. Respected throughout the industry as a leader in the mobile enterprise space, Mr. Alvarez is a frequent speaker at industry events around the world. Mr. Alvarez graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. and holds a law degree from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.

 

Enrique Capó
Vice President, Professional Services and Quality
Abaco’s VP of Professional Services and Quality, Enrique Capó holds Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Processing from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. He began his career as a systems engineer for EDS in Houston Texas in the large financial institutions division.

Mr. Capó joined Abaco in 1992 where he was initially involved in the design & development of Abaco’s foremost product offering, the Abaco Bridge©. Mr. Capó continued on to establish and subsequently manage the Abaco professional services practice for Fortune 1000 customers in Puerto Rico, the US mainland and its subsequent expansion into Europe.

 

Brian Budd
Vice President of Sales
Abaco's Vice President of Sales is a graduate of Fanshawe College in Electrical Engineering.  Mr. Budd is a 20-year veteran of the Mobile workforce automation industry.  Prior to joining Abaco, he served as one of the principles and as Vice President of Sales with Extended Technologies (Xtek), a leading sales force automation development organization providing solutions for the Mobile Direct Store Delivery marketplace.  In 2004, Xtek was acquired by the GBG organization.  Mr. Budd continued his role as Vice President of Sales and contributed to market growth within the GFG & GBG divisions.

Prior to Xtek, Mr. Budd served as National Accounts Manager with Intermec/Norand, a manufacturer and global distributor of mobile computer systems for sales force and field service automation.  Over this 12 year period Mr. Budd was responsible for numerous mobile workforce automation projects with enterprise customers across Canada, US, and the Caribbean.

Mr. Budd’s role with Abaco Mobile is to drive the sales strategy and execution to maximize business growth.  In his position, Mr. Budd works with the Abaco leadership team to drive the expansion of Abaco’s software solutions and open new opportunities for Abaco Mobile as a leading provider of mobile solutions.

Rene Lorenzo
Chief Financial Officer
Abaco's Chief Financial Officer is a graduate of Triton College and Roosevelt University, Mr. Lorenzo hold degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. Early in his career he realized the importance of using Technology to significantly improve the business processes. He has held positions in Information Technology, Administration and Management for the last 34 years.

Prior to becoming the CFO of Abaco, he was a Vice-President of Refining and Marketing with Coastal Corporation in Houston, Texas prior to the sale of the Company to El Paso Energy. Mr. Lorenzo also serves as the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Abaco’s Board and has also served as a Director in Boards of wholly owned and Joint Venture companies of the Coastal Corporation.

 

Josean Mendez
Vice President of Product Engineering
In 1993 Mr. Mendez participated in the AHPCRC (Army High Performance Computing Research Center). He is the co-author of a paper titled “Modeling the Action of Antiarrhythmic Drugs on Cardiac Ventricular Action Potential Propagation” using super computers developed while attending the AHPCRC.

In 1996, while working for one of the leaders in the distribution industry in Puerto Rico, Mr. Mendez developed a warehouse system that revolutionized the distribution process within the company. Two years later Mr. Mendez engineered a solution that extended benefits from the internal warehouse system to the company's customers.

In 2001, while working for Abaco, Mr. Mendez led the AMS (formerly known as Atoma) server development efforts. He is one of the main contributors to the TxSync™ process and the principal architect for Abaco’s APS product.

Mr. Mendez has more than 11 years in the computer industry with experience in mobile distributed system, inventory systems and mobile devices. He has been a contributor of several mobile projects.
