The Abaco Bridge utilizes open standards to communicate with wireless
and/or wired devices through your company's existing LAN and WAN infrastructure.
Because it is both hardware and software independent, the Abaco Bridge
provides a flexible and scalable migration path for integrating automated
data collection seamlessly into your existing infrastructure and data
collection processes.
As an NT based technology platform, the Abaco Bridge provides the capability
for interfacing a variety of automated data collection devices, RF and
wireless terminals, shop floor automation components…any device that captures
data for transmission into a host application.
Even if your host application is not available, the store and forward
capability of the Abaco Bridge ensures that you lose no data and allows
your workforce to continue.
The Abaco Bridge utilizes open-standards based components that allow
it to handle applications such as warehouse management, labor reporting,
time and attendance, shop floor control, plant maintenance, service management,
as well as more robust wireless applications. Scalability and an open
migration path make it an ideal choice for implementing systems today
and lays the foundation for moving to or upgrading your company's ERP
system.
The Abaco Bridge Structure
The process of supporting transactions in the Bridge is composed of two
major steps. The first step requires the configuration of the ERP package's
native data transfer mechanisms. This involves providing access to the
host applications metadata in need of support.
The second step requires the User Interface Editor Module, a user-friendly
GUI development tool within the Abaco Bridge, to generate the code residing
in the ADC device for the intended function. Since each end user scenario
differs by customer need, this module allows Abaco and/or the customer
to support customer-specific functionality for a variety of scenarios.
System Overview
The Abaco Bridge technology platform is comprised of four main modules:
The User Interface (UI) Editor
The UI Editor is a graphical design tool that allows complete customization
of customer workflow-quickly and easily generating C, C++ or Varadero
code for automated data collection mobile computing devices.
The Host Interface
This module connects the system to the data collection devices using the
ERP package's native data transfer mechanisms.
The System Scheduler
This allows unattended maintenance for tasks such as downloading files,
clearing database records or sending messages to any Windows-based applications.
The Dispatcher Module
The Dispatcher Module is the main module of the Abaco Bridge technology
platform. It is responsible for all communications among portable devices,
printers and the host system. It retains transactions when the host is
not available, uploads data in sequence and reports errors, while providing
non-stop enterprise data collection.
Additional Functionality: Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework
Abaco provides additional functionality to the Bridge with Abaco's Varadero
Wireless Framework. This wireless application development framework and
ultra-thin client server package empowers you to create, deploy and maintain
robust automated data collection applications for mobile devices through
standard development tools and languages.
Varadero provides an architecture that requires less than 100k on the
client and allows for full graphical access to server-based applications.
This creates great efficiency in application development, deployment and
maintenance, as only one development environment is required to deploy
the applications across different device platforms. This allows you to
mix and match devices and applications to best suit your needs.
Abaco's Varadero Wireless Framework supports signature and image capture,
audio messaging, magnetic stripe readers, portable printers and a host
of other features satisfy your mobile enterprise needs.
