Mobile Web Dynpro focuses on online technology where a browser of a mobile device is always connected to a Web server. This is based on technologies such as WAP, wireless LANs, Bluetooth, and GPRS.  The main objective is to extend and enhance SAP's programming model for building professional user interfaces with features that allow application developers to easily create and modify mobile applications or extend existing desktop browser applications for mobile usage.

Development is performed using the same development environment – the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio – that you use to program Web Dynpro applications for a desktop browser. For the development of mobile Web Dynpro applications, the application development therefore uses:

·        The same metadata model

·        The same development environment

·        The same functions provided by Web Dynpro –  personalization, connecting a back end, user management, and so on.

The individual mobile components are:      

·        Device and Browser Recognition (ClientInfo) in the SAP Web Application Server

·        For pocket PCs: The PIE client (Pocket Internet Explorer client), which is made up of a set of renderer classes and is responsible for data and event handling.

·          For Blackberry Wireless Handhelds: The WML client (Wireless Markup Language client), which is made up for a set of renderer classes and is responsible for data and event handling

Mobile Web Dynpro enables SAP mobile applications to be rendered on Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) devices, Blackberry handheld devices and Nokia Series 80 mobile devices.  SAP mobile applications rendered in the Pocket PC environment such as the mobile devices provided by HP, Intermec, and Motorola (Symbol)  are not only more attractive, but more powerful as well.
